Cross-Border Project to Transform Komárno–Komárom–Tata–Kolárovo–Nesvady Region into Year-Round Tourism Destination

A major Slovak-Hungarian initiative has launched to boost the tourism appeal and competitiveness of the cross-border region encompassing Komárno, Komárom, Tata, Kolárovo, and Nesvady. By expanding existing infrastructure, the joint project aims to transform the area into a complex, year-round destination. Instead of building brand-new attractions, the focus is on smart, complementary investments that enhance the visitor experience, reduce seasonality, and stimulate the regional economy.

The project concentrates on three key pillars:
• Accommodation: Upgrading lodging to encourage longer stays, including new year-round holiday houses in Komárom and Tata, and a dedicated caravan park in Komárno.
• Spa & Wellness: Boosting the region’s family appeal by establishing a vibrant new spray park in Nesvady.
• Recreation & Eco-Tourism: Developing a complex recreational site in Kolárovo featuring a new stage, playground, renovated country houses, and a community event venue. Additionally, in Komárno at the Váh River backwater, the existing site and its boat and water-bike rental services will be significantly upgraded.

At the core of the project is Pons Danubii EGTC with its dedicated management team. Drawing from Pons Danubii’s extensive track record of successful project execution, this team will oversee the strategic action plan, manage risks, handle financial reporting, and maintain direct cooperation with the Joint Secretariat and Managing Authority to ensure smooth operations. A major highlight is the organization of study visits and professional workshops for consortium members and tourism industry professionals. These site visits will combine experiential learning with knowledge sharing to showcase how the new infrastructure connects with existing landmarks. Ultimately, this unified strategy will increase visitor numbers and overnight stays while fostering deeper cooperation between Slovak and Hungarian communities.
