The project is implemented by the Ipoly Valley European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation Ltd. (Ipoly Valley EGTC) in the Hungarian–Slovak border region. The project aims to strengthen active tourism in the Ipoly Valley, with a particular focus on cycling tourism and water tourism, while connecting previously fragmented attractions into a coherent and functional cross-border tourism network.
As a result of the project, officially recognised cycling and water routes are established along approximately 260 km, supported by a uniform system of Hungarian–Slovak bilingual signage. The signage enables visitors to navigate the routes, access nearby attractions, and obtain essential safety and emergency information. All routes are integrated into digital maps and ecotourism applications, improving visibility, accessibility and the overall visitor experience.
To support the safe development of water tourism, the project includes the procurement and installation of two mobile floating piers with non-slip surfaces, providing flexible embarkation and disembarkation points adapted to water level fluctuations and flood risks. In addition, partial removal of river obstacles is carried out on selected sections of the River Ipoly, improving navigability and ensuring safer passage in line with environmental and water management requirements.
Overall, the project enhances cross-border territorial cooperation, improves active tourism infrastructure, and contributes to the long-term development of sustainable, nature-based and experience-oriented tourism in the Ipoly Valley.
