“Explore by bike and boat” project aims to jointly develop the cross-border tourist region between Košice and Tokaj. The cross-border initiative was launched with the aim of developing active tourism along the Hornád/Hernád and Bodrog rivers and the EUROVELO11 bicycle route. The main objective of the project is to attract tourists to the region by connecting water and bicycle tourism and to strengthen Tokaj-Košice destination.
The program is implemented in collaboration with five partners and is built on three pillars: active tourism, gastronomy and cultural heritage.
Lead partner of the project, Tokaj Borvidék Fejlődéséért Nonprofit Kft., installs information sign system covering area from Košice to Tokaj. Signs will guide tourists throughout the region, encouraging them not only to be transit passengers along the main routes, but also to discover the hidden treasures of the region. Ten self-service bicycle service points will also be installed.
On the Slovak side, a modern boathouse is being built in the city of Košice, in the Anička recreation area on the banks of the Hornád river. The investment aims to provide modern infrastructure for water tourism by creating sanitary facilities, boat storage and a training room. The implementing partner is Ľuboš Grajcár – John the B tour.
II. Rákóczi Ferenc, n.o., Non-profit Organization in Borsa plans to expand its ecotourism services in campsite for water tourists and cyclists. Within the project, containers will be installed to expand the sanitary facilities and to provide secure bicycle storage. In addition, electric bicycles, kayaks and a minibus with trailer will be procured. Bereg Bár Kft. installs automated SUP rental station in Tokaj and Bodrogkeresztúr. The stations will operate 24 hours a day, in three languages (Hungarian, Slovak, English), and will use a cashless rental system.
In Tokaj, at the confluence of the Bodrog and Tisza rivers, Waldzell Kft. is creates a parking lot as junction of the region within the framework of the Tokaj Marina complex development, which will later be connected to tourist services.
The project contributes to the development and networking of the active tourism infrastructure of the Košice-Tokaj region. The direct effects of the developments include the strengthening of cross-border cooperation between the participating partners. The project promotes the development of a unified, competitive and attractive destination in the Košice-Tokaj region.
