The main objective of the project “ Undiscovered Active Tourism Paradise” is to preserve the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Bodrog region, and make it accessible to visitors in a sustainable way. This initiative creates new opportunities not only in tourism but also at the economic and community levels. One of the key aims of the project is to present the cultural and natural values of the Bodrog region in a way that ensures their long-term preservation while strengthening the conditions for the development of active tourism.

The non-profit organisation Transport Infrastructure of the Košice Self-Governing Region will implement part of a broader concept aimed at developing cycling tourism in Tokaj and the Bodrog region. As part of the project, the first phase of a 44-kilometre cycling route along the Bodrog and Latorca rivers will be developed, connecting Borša with Ptrukša. The partner will upgrade and reinforce 15 kilometres of flood protection dikes to enable safe cycling between Borša and Zatín.
Prešovská bicyklová skupina Kostitras will establish a new cycling centre designed as a modern, open public space for cyclists and visitors. The centre will include an eco-friendly parking area, a cycling training and skills park, pedestrian pathways, an artistic element, extensive greenery and landscaping including a herb garden, a green pavilion, and area lighting to create a welcoming and safe environment for recreational and educational activities. In addition, the group will develop a cross-border cycling route. The 63.6-kilometre route features numerous natural and historical attractions, including the footbridge over the Latorica River, sandy beaches along the Tisza, the Mokcsa Nature Reserve, the church in Lácacséke, Majláth Castle in Pribeník, and the ruins of Csonkavár Castle.

Within the project, SOS/BirdLife Slovensko will create basic infrastructure for birdwatchers near the village of Strážne. The area is home to Slovakia’s only small population of the European roller, making it an attractive destination for birdwatching. Visitors will also have the opportunity to observe other bird species, such as bee-eaters, grey shrikes, sand martins, and Eurasian hoopoes.
In Révleányvár, along the River Tisza, a covered cycling rest area equipped with sanitary facilities will be developed. This investment will contribute to better utilisation of the area’s existing natural assets and to the integration of water-based and cycling tourism.
