The cross-border joint project is aimed at retention, processing and use of precipitation that sometimes occurs suddenly and in large quantities in the area of the suburbs of Košice and the city center of Nyíregyháza.
During the project preparation, the need for flood protection measures at both locations was identified, the problem solution was developed jointly by the specialists of both partners, as a result of which a professional and technical solution suitable for handling the local problem was developed at both locations.
In the area of the outskirts of Košice, the common challenge of the partner cities is the establishment of a “Rain Garden”, while in Nyíregyháza, the development, and resizing of the existing rainwater network and supplying it with buffer tanks is a solution.
The implementation of the project provides a common cross-border solution to the common flood protection problem of the two cities, and the long-term and sustainable cooperation of the two countries is established by the participation and exchange of ideas of Slovak and Hungarian experts at regular and joint events.
As a cross-border effect, we organize a workshop and a professional conference in the field of flood protection with the participation of experts from the two partner countries to exchange experiences and best practices. The management members entrusted with the professional management of the Slovak and Hungarian development elements realized within the framework of the project coordinate the implementation in close cooperation, based on the exchange of professional experience and consultations, and inform each other about the progress. The possibilities of overcoming the new obstacles and problems that have arisen are sought in the framework of joint work, involving the designers and the maintainers and operators of the facilities. After implementation, the results achieved and the future effects of the intervention will be evaluated through joint work, thus ensuring future cooperation between the two cities. Both partner cities involve researchers, professionals and students from Universities dealing with natural sciences, concluding cooperation agreements with them, to map local problems and develop solution strategies.
