Along the border, LESY SR on the Slovak side and EGERERDŐ Zrt. on the Hungarian side are the largest forest biotope managers in the region. For this reason, they feel the need and at the same time the duty to set an example for the protection and preservation of natural values. That is why they jointly developed the project “Foresters for nature and regions” (Foresters4Nature). With this project, they want to improve the protection of the natural environment and prove that one of the priorities of their activity is nature protection.
The main objectives of the project
Designed by EGERERDŐ Zrt.:
• Renewing the natural plant composition of lawns
• Renewal and protection of the collection of indigenous fruit varieties
• Renewal of wetlands, water retention
• Amphibian-friendly treatment of forest roads, elimination of amphibian traps, creation of new wetlands.
Designed by LESY SR:
• Restoration and revitalization of meadow and shrub communities
• Establishment of orchards containing indigenous fruit trees
• Revival of original wetlands and establishment of new wetlands
The partners want to set an example for better management of the natural environment and natural resources.
The tools for this will be tangible results such as increasing biodiversity, gene preservation, nature-friendly maintenance of forest roads, renovation of wetlands and creation of new ones.
As additional activities, the renewal of wetlands and water retention is the planned part of the project.
Several elements of the planned activities also serve to retain water. This is achieved by restoring old, silted wetlands and creating new wetlands in small, suitable locations.
