The #geopass2 project elevates the Novohrad–Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark to a new level, transforming it into a cross-border, sustainable and experience-driven tourism destination in one of Central Europe’s most unique volcanic landscapes.
By connecting cultural heritage and natural assets into a unified tourism offer, the project enhances regional attractiveness, supports local economies, and increases the international visibility of the area.
Through close cooperation between Slovak and Hungarian partners, #geopass2 strengthens destination management, develops joint marketing tools, and promotes professional knowledge exchange, ensuring long-term sustainability and impact.

Key investments under the project significantly upgrade the visitor experience across the region:
– In Slovakia, the renovation of the historic Ebeczky Mansion in Hajnáčka establishes the first comprehensive geopark visitor centre,
– At Šomoška Castle (Somoskő Castle), improvements enhance safety and accessibility,
– In Hungary, developments at the Ipolytarnóc Fossils Site and the Mining Exhibition Site in Salgótarján introduce modern, interactive and experience-based attractions.

Volcanic landscapes, castles, fossil sites and mining heritage are brought together into a single, coherent destination story, offering a unique cross-border experience without borders.
#geopass2 goes beyond infrastructure: it strengthens sustainable tourism, creates new opportunities for local businesses, supports job creation, and reinforces community identity.

The project positions the Novohrad–Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark as a model destination for sustainable cultural and nature tourism in Central Europe — where nature, history and innovation meet.
