The effects of climate change can already be felt in weather changes today, and according to forecasts, less predictable rainfall patterns and more intense storms will become even more characteristic in the future. In many cases, heavy rains accompanied by storms can cause significant storm damage, which – just like the resulting flash floods – pose a serious threat to human life and property. In hot, drier periods, on the other hand, the risk of forest fires increases throughout Europe. The management of these phenomena is possible through the cooperation of the authorities and the volunteers involved in disaster management, which, however, requires the provision of the appropriate infrastructural and professional background. The aim of this project is to contribute to increasing the cross-border capacity of border disaster risk management on both sides of the Danube, in the wider area of Komárom, and to improving the coordination and response capacity of the organizations involved in disaster risk management. The project partners are developing their asset portfolio with machines that can be particularly effectively used in the management of storm damage and floods, e.g. through the purchase of a lift’s bucket truck and trailer, off-road vehicle, protective equipment, and a drone that can be used in mapping disaster. In addition, the volunteer firefighters receive training on the one hand in the use of existing and new vehicles and tools, and on the other hand in adapting their procedures to EU standards in order to fit in as a responder or host organization in an international/regional/cross-border response. To conclude the project, an international field exercise will be implemented, which will provide an opportunity for the participants to test their preparedness, coordination and technical skills, as well as for the operational cooperation between the teams to be strengthened in real conditions.
