The project aims to reduce the hydrological risks (flooding, inland flooding, flash floods) in the common border watershed of the Bodrogköz/Medzibodrožie area and to increase the resilience of the border population. The partners will jointly develop their voluntary intervention capacities.
The following elements will be implemented:
– Establishment of the HYDRORISK network for cross-border voluntary cooperation involving municipalities and other voluntary organisations with the expansion of an existing network (CODE VDIC)
– Creation of a pool of intervention institutions based on a preliminary needs assessment, in cooperation with relevant institutions in the target area (e.g. health institutions, nursing homes, etc.)
– Construction of a new storage building in Cigánd, purchase of a storage facility in Sátoraljaújhely for the central and safe storage of flood protection equipment
– Construction of a fast-flow stormwater drainage channel system and a stormwater reservoir in Kráľovský Chlmec
– Purchase of the necessary flood protection/intervention equipment (Cigánd: ditching/excavator-loading machine, aggregators, pumps, protective equipment, hand tools, weather station; ZTKPVSZ: Flatbed truck for flood protection, quad, mobile meteorological station, protective clothing, thermal camera, tents, shelving system for storage of purchased equipment, IT equipment; Kráľovský Chlmec: lawn mower tractor, petrol-engine scythe, camera system for complex management of hydrological problems, etc. )
– Human capacity building on flood protection, so-called “Training of Trainers”, followed by local training for volunteers in Cigánd and Kráľovský Chlmec, and a joint final exercise
– Practice-oriented knowledge transfer campaigns:
o joint thematic summer youth camps (1/year, 2 in total)
o 1-1 awareness-raising campaign linked to major events for the wider population (Safety Day (HU), Festival Medzibodrožie (SK))
All these are aimed at enabling and ensuring a more efficient voluntary intervention and adaptation of the population along the border in case of emergency.
