The St. Mór Benedictine Monastery and town Šamorín implemented a cross-border project called Modern Monasteries between 2017-2020. Based on the experience of this jointly implemented project and the established partnership, the Project Partners plan to continue the previous developments. The main objective of the project is to renovate cultural heritage sites and use them as new tourist attractions. In Šamorín the second floor of the previously renovated Korona building will be renovated, and after the renovation, escape rooms will be created. An interactive exhibition space will be created in the attic of the Benedictine monastery in Győr, which is currently under renovation and has not been used for a long time. Visiting the exhibition visitors can learn about the history and operation of bells, the past and present of Benedictine education, as well as baroque liturgical elements. The monastery’s garden will be renovated, and a herb garden suitable for relaxation will be created here. The partners organize a joint conference, opening event and handover ceremonies. A sutdents project with one-day and two-day workshops will be organized for high school students, during which the student team actively contributes to the development of the attractions, by designing the escape room in Šamorín, and by creating a short film and video material about monasteries heritage. As a result of the project, new tourist attractions will be created on both sides of the border, which are expected to cause a significant increase in the number of visitors, we expect a total of 2.500 visitors per year. The target group of the joint student project and workshops is 15+15 high school students, the developments and events are primarily aimed at the participants and representatives of the church life of the Slovakian-Hungarian border area, and last but not least the residents and visitors of the Šamorín and Győr regions.
