The goal of the “Development of joint intervention capacities” project is to optimize and strengthen the intervention capacities and preparedness of proffessional firefighters in the border area in the elimination of risks that threaten the natural environment, waterways, material values, lives and health of persons. These are mainly flash floods, floods and ecological accidents associated with the release of dangerous substances into waterways. By optimizing mechanisms for the development of cooperation, building technical and institutional support for intervention teams and setting operational procedures in the border area, the project partners in border regions will gain a higher ability to responde and solve emergencies faster and more effectively. The involvement of local fire brigades in the educational activities of the project will significantly strengthen their preparedness to cooperate and intervene in crisis situations. In an effort to ensure the effective use of technical means with a connection to the exchange of experience and training, a joint exercise of firefighting and rescue units will be organized, which will ensure the testing of the mutual compatibility of material means and joint procedures of rescue activities in the border area.
In order to increase the effectiveness of cooperation between Hungary and Slovakia, we wish to develop cross-border disaster management, civil protection, fire protection, and industrial accident prevention activities within the framework of the joint project. Using the experience of previous floods, water pollution, the rescue of people and objects on water surfaces, taking into account the expected new extreme weather phenomena, possible industrial pollutions, we will develope a new procedure with risk assessment, new methods and new procedures in order to respond more effectively. By acquiring new equipment, organizing joint trainings and exercises, involving and preparing volunteers, and the population, we improve the ability to intervene and manage the region’s disasters. Our priority goal is to reduce the possibble damage caused by the disasters expected in the region, and to increase the disaster resilience.
Only the cooperation of the parties, joint preparation, and coordination of their activities can contribute to the development of the region’s resilience against disasters, and to the improvement of safety of people and material assets. These goals would not be realized without the project.
