The project will be implemented with the close partnership of 3 consortium partners: the municipality of Győr and Dunaszerdahely and Arrabona EGTC. There have been active relations between the settlements for a long time, and with the mediation of the Arrabona EGTC the 2 municipalities formally confirmed the goal of further boosting of cross-border relations in 2021 with the signature of a sister city agreement fixing culture, arts, tourism, sports, economic cooperation as main areas of cooperation.
In order to fulfill its goals the partners have already implemented a number of joint, successful projects in the fields of culture and tourism in recent years; with this development they wish to further develop another element of this content-rich cooperation system by preserving and renewing their cultural heritage. The initiative aims to preserve and create common cultural and artistic value that can be used by the citizens of the cities and to increase the level of cooperation between professionals and citizens. With the ongoing professional participation of the present building operators, the local museum and cultural center we plan following activities::
– Complex renovation of the Hungarian Ispita monument building of the Rómer Flóris Art and History Museum in Győr;
– Renovation of the Vermes Villa in Dunaszerdahely, which houses contemporary galleries;
– As a horizontal element – with the professional coordination of the Arrabona EGTC – joint development of a module-like operating model based on mutual benefits in order to expand the functions of renewable buildings, to strengthen cross-border effects, to connect the 2 institutions in a complementary way at the operational and program plan level; organization of artist camps, joint exhibitions, exhibition exchanges, study trips for testing purposes.
Through the implementation of this investment and with the preservation of their unique historical characteristics the buildings will become multifunctional and community spaces which will be used in future for the creation and preservation of intellectual and cultural heritage. They provide
– a meeting place for local, regional and cross-border artists and creative communities to get to know each other, for joint artistic-creative work, creative camps;
– a modern, environmentally sustainable location and forum for artistic, cultural and community-building events and exhibitions, thus contributing to increase the tourist attraction of the border area.
