The cross-border project “”Danube treasures – two shores, one adventure” – complex touristic development of the “Danube-Gerecse” region “ is being implemented through the collaboration of a Komárom-Esztergom County TDM (Duna-Gerecse nKft) and a Nitra County TDM (OOCR Podunajsko). In addition to these two organizations, several municipalities and economic entities are also carrying out developments within the designated action area of the project. This action area extends to the northern part of the Vértes Mountains, the Gerecse, the Danube region between Ács and Kravany (on both the Hungarian and Slovak sides), the Lower Nitra region, and the Bátor-Keszi Hills. Furthermore, there is an isolated but network-connected project section in the Zobor region.
The project’s goal is to establish the Danube-Gerecse region and Nitra County as a tourism destination between Budapest and Bratislava, attracting residents of both capitals as a unique recreational area with a distinctive range of products. At the same time, the comprehensive service offerings will turn the region into a fully-fledged destination for active tourism, wine-gastronomy tourism, and heritage tourism. The two sides of the Danube are organically connected through their offerings, with the river becoming known among visitors not as a border but as a shared space of experiences.
The project is coordinated by Duna-Gerecse nKft. and OOCR Podunajsko. As part of this coordination, project partners are responsible for overseeing local developments, planning cross-border promotional campaigns, and ensuring sustainable and harmonized operation. The primary objective of the CCP project component is to ensure that all site developments serve a common, unified regional tourism strategy that enhances the competitiveness of the action area in the long term.
During the execution of this project component, the parties share joint responsibility for ensuring that the project is implemented on time and in accordance with the grant agreement. They oversee and support the planned developments in both countries. In terms of work organization, the parties have agreed to hold biweekly project meetings, focusing on the following key areas:
• Planning and monitoring professional and financial progress
• Tracking procurement processes/public procurement
• Monitoring publicity
• Liaising with JTS
Additionally, a quarterly consortium meeting is planned with the participation of all relevant partners.
