A new cross-border tourism development project has been launched to strengthen cycling and active tourism in the Szigetköz–Csallóköz region, an area renowned for its exceptional natural and cultural heritage in both Hungary and Slovakia. The project is led by Győr Projekt Kft. and implemented in Győr (Hungary) and Dobrohošť (Slovakia), with the shared objective of promoting sustainable active tourism and environmentally friendly mobility.
In Győr, a key element of the project is the establishment of the Győr Cycling Centre in the city centre. The centre will provide previously unavailable cycling services, including bicycle rental, repair and storage facilities, a bike shop, and charging points for electric bikes. Located along the EuroVelo 6 route, the cycling centre will also function as a rest stop for touring cyclists, contributing to the development of sustainable tourism and transportation in the region.
In Dobrohošť, the Slovak project partner, Zoltán Jankó’s enterprise (Vodnétury), will focus on expanding active tourism opportunities in the Csallóköz area. As part of the project, e-bikes and canoes will be procured to launch new tour organisation and rental services. The innovative “Bike and Boat” tour packages will combine cycling and water tourism, offering unique experiences for visitors discovering the Inland Danube-Delta, while making use of existing local infrastructure.
The project is supported by the Interreg HUSK Programme, whose contribution is essential to its success. Through cross-border cooperation, the initiative aims to enhance the region’s tourism attractiveness, extend visitor stays, and create new economic opportunities for local communities. With Interreg support, the project lays the foundation for long-term, sustainable tourism development on both sides of the border.
