The Hungarian Canoe Federation and the Slovak Canoeing Federation, in a joint consortium, plan to boost active water tourism in the Szigetköz by purchasing special boats suitable for whitewater and water tours, and by creating a water passage and slalom course for a first whitewater experience at the Sorjási bukó.

The Hungarian Canoe Federation plans to build a water tourism gateway and a beginner’s slalom course at Sorjási bukó in Dunaremete, connecting the two parts of the Szigetköz waterway system. As there are no other water-touring connections on this section of the system, this new gateway will provide the opportunity to create new routes for water-tourism. The most important element of the investment is that it will make the section of the river accessible on water for those who wish to take a longer water tour and cross the Sorjási bukó.
With the construction of the planned facility, visitors in the Szigetköz will have a new, sustainable, family-friendly and unique experience in the region, which will encourage them to extend their stay and visit the facility, thus making the region more competitive.

The project will divide the river into two lanes: a wider and a narrower section. The wider section will be the slower-flowing passage for water tourists, while the narrower section will be the faster-flowing for whitewater experience. Water tourers who do not wish to go downstream even on the safer wide section can use the drop-off and pick-up points above and below the Sorjási bukó to cross.

The boats, planned to be purchased in the project, can be hired by anyone and are also suitable for whitewater, will complement the water tourism services, increase the length of stay in the area and allow anyone to try whitewater in controlled and safe conditions.

The Čunovo Water Sports Complex, located on the southern outskirts of Bratislava, is an artificial whitewater course which will be given a new impetus by the project to become a deserved tourist attraction in the region. The aim of the Slovak Canoeing Federation is to improve the touristic potential and the sustainable development of the area by acquiring new boats and additional equipment for whitewater experience. The investment will allow whitewater paddling to be tried out on a wide scale, while integrating the complex into the water tourism of the area.
